The system also had to hold clinician trust: a records platform that slows a clinician down gets worked around, and a worked-around EMR is a compliance risk, not a tool.
ChartAssist was built on a deliberately traditional, pre-AI foundation: Linux, PostgreSQL, and PHP, chosen for durability over novelty, with Node and React arriving as the platform modernized across its long production run. A team of ten engineers built and operated it, and the boring-on-purpose stack is a large part of why a system designed in the 2000s could keep serving five facilities for years without a rewrite.
